Roseburg Police jailed a man after an alleged theft and escape incident on Friday.

An RPD report said at 6:15 p.m. officers responded to a store in the 1400 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard after a caller said a shoplifting incident was in progress. When an officer arrived, the manager pointed to a 25-year old suspect who was allegedly concealing items under his sweatshirt.

The suspect refused to stop, but was taken into custody after a foot chase. The investigation concluded that the man had allegedly tried to steal over $345.00 worth of merchandise.

The suspect was charged with second-degree theft and third-degree escape. Bail was set at $12,500.
