April 1, 2023 6:00 a.m.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Saturday evening at 11:00 p.m. through Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. above 2,000 feet for much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches except up to 20 inches in the higher mountains.

The Warning area includes central Douglas County, the south-central Oregon coast, Josephine County and eastern Curry County.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. Snow levels could drop as low as 1,500 feet Sunday morning in the Illinois Valley and also the passes on Interstate 5 between Grants Pass and Canyon Creek. Colder air will arrive Sunday night into Monday with a higher risk of road snow in those same areas.

Travel is strongly discouraged because of dangerous conditions. Listen to News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN and check www.541radio.com to stay connected with updated weather information.
