Law enforcement officers who were in a meeting at the Mill Casino Hotel in North Bend detained a masked man as he entered the building with a handgun on Wednesday.

A Coos County Sheriff’s Office report said several members of CCSO, along with Coquille Tribal Police Officers were attending the meeting, which was taking place upstairs, overlooking the hotel side entrance.

A CCSO staff member saw a suspicious-looking suspect walking towards the entrance of the building from the parking lot. As the staff member and a deputy watched the man, he allegedly pulled a mask over his face, took a handgun from his pocket and moved it to the inside of his jacket.

All law enforcement officers at the meeting quickly moved downstairs and confronted the subject, identified as 32-year old Gary Danielson of Coos Bay.

Danielson was immediately taken into custody. A loaded 9mm handgun was seized from the inside of his jacket. North Bend Police responded and transported the suspect to the Coos County Jail. He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A CCSO release said it is unknown what the man’s intentions were but the department is proud of its officers for always remaining vigilant.
