March 27, 2023 9:30 a.m.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect above 5,000 feet with a Winter Weather Advisory below 5,000 feet for the south-central Oregon Cascades from 5:00 p.m. Monday through 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said total snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches with winds gusting as high as 60 miles per hour are forecast for the Warning area with total snow accumulations of 4 to 9 inches with winds gusting as high as 40 miles per hour for the Advisory area.

This includes portions of Highway 62 near Crater Lake and Crater Lake National Park for the Warning area. For the Advisory area, it includes Union Creek and Diamond Lake along with portions of highways 62, 230 and 138.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. The combination of strong winds and snow will result in reduced visibilities and occasional whiteout conditions.

Travel is strongly discouraged due to dangerous conditions. Those who must travel, should keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications and a fully charged phone with them.
