Sutherlin Police jailed a man for an alleged elude and theft incident early Sunday.

An SPD report said just before 5:30 a.m. the 37-year old was allegedly seen on city cameras stealing cans in Oakland. When officers arrived in the area of Northeast Cypress Avenue and Northeast Third Street in Oakland, the suspect fled on foot.

A friend’s vehicle was located a short distance away and the suspect returned to it a short time later. Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office responded to assist with the high risk stop. The man was detained without further incident.

He was charged with second-degree theft and for attempting to elude in a vehicle. The man was detained without bail.
