WINTER STORM WATCH FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS

March 22, 2023 1:30 p.m. 

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for mountain areas above 2,500 feet from 11:00 a.m. Thursday through 5:00 p.m. Friday in parts of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches with locally up to 25 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 miles per hour.

The Watch area includes the South Central and Southern Oregon Cascades and the Siskiyou Mountains. This includes Highway 140 at Lake of the Woods, Highway 62 near Union Creek and Crater Lake, Highway 239, Highway 58 at Willamette Pass and Highway 138 at Diamond Lake.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult with snow covered roads and significantly reduced visibility at times.

Drivers should stock an emergency kit with tire chains, flashlight, batteries, blankets, food, water, and medications.
