The legendary Frank Moore was memorialized by the Oregon State Legislature last week.

The legislation was sponsored by Democratic State Representative Ken Helm of Beaverton and Republican State Senator David Brock Smith of Port Orford.

House Concurrent Resolution 12 goes into great detail listing Moore’s many accomplishments. From his service in the United States Army infantry during World War II, including his bravery and leadership in combat during the D-Day amphibious assault on Normany, the subsequent campaign across France and the Battle of the Bulge, to  his time running a restaurant in Roseburg with wife Jeanne, to his purchase of the Steamboat Store which led to building the famous Steamboat Inn, and much more.

In fact, the resolution runs two pages of smaller font type. It talks about Moore’s impact on logging practices and watershed protections to support wild salmon and steelhead, his work with lawmakers on conservation issues, and his promotion of the North Umpqua River. The resolution noted Moore’s many honors including the 2019 establishment by Congress of the Frank and Jeanne Moore Wild Steelhead Sanctuary, which enhanced protections for nearly 100,000 acres of the North Umpqua watershed.

Written testimony in support of the resolution came from people like Kirk Blaine, president of the group Steamboaters, Becky McRae of the North Umpqua Foundation, and Jeffrey Dose, a retired fisheries biologist for the Umpqua National Forest, among others.

Near the conclusion of the resolution Moore was called, “…a legendary angler and a tireless and visionary conservationist whose career touched countless lives and forever changed the landscape of the North Umpqua watershed and the State of Oregon”.

Frank Moore passed away January 23, 2022, only a week shy of his 99th birthday.

The measure was supported unanimously by both chambers of the legislature. A copy of the resolution will be given to Moore’s family according to son Dennis who spoke with News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN on Thursday.

State Senator David Brock Smith talked about the resolution honoring Frank Moore’s life on the Morning Conversation Friday. That interview is a KQEN podcast at www.541radio.com
