WINTER STORM WATCH STARTS LATE FRIDAY NIGHT

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Friday night through late Saturday night for elevations above 1,200 feet in central Douglas County and surrounding areas.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are expected with 1 to 2 feet over higher terrain. Winds could gust as high as 35 miles per hour.

The Watch area also includes the south-central Oregon coast, much of Curry County, and Josephine County. This includes Interstate 5 between Grants Pass and Canyonville, Highway 199 in the Illinois Valley and Highway 42 at Camas Mountain.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible.
