A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Friday night through late Saturday night for higher elevations in central Douglas County and surrounding areas.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are possible, with 1 to 2 feet over the higher terrain. Winds could gust as high as 35 miles per hour.

The Watch area also includes the south-central Oregon coast, Curry County’s coastal areas, eastern Curry County and Josephine County. The Watch is for elevations above roughly 1,200 feet. This includes Interstate 5 between Grants Pass and Canyonville, Highway 199 in Illinois Valley and Highway 42 at Camas Mountain.

Forecasters said travel could become very difficult to impossible.
