CRATER LAKE SNOW DEPTH ABOVE AVERAGE

The current snow depth at Crater Lake National Park is slightly above average while the amount of snow that has fallen since October 1st is just below average.

The daily weather report for the park dated for Monday showed 9 inches of new snow had fallen with the current snow depth at 111 inches. That is just over the average snow depth for the date which is 107 inches. 319 inches, or over 26.5 feet of snow, has fallen at the national park since October 1st. That is 96 percent of the average for the date, which is 332 inches, or nearly 28 feet.

Data provided by Park Ranger Dave Grimes said the average annual snowfall for the park is 481 inches, just over 40 feet. The greatest snowfall for one winter was 835 inches, equating to over 69.5 feet.

3 to 7 inches of new snow is expected at the park on Tuesday.

While the Highway 62 route to the park headquarters is currently open, West Rim Drive, East Rim Drive, and the North Entrance Road to the park are closed.
