The Roseburg School District Board of Directors has extended Superintendent Jared Cordon’s contract through June 30, 2026, as part of its annual superintendent evaluation.

During the meeting last Thursday night, Cordon highlighted the investments made this school year, along with ongoing work, that continue to move the district’s strategic plan forward. Cordon said the plan calls on the district to focus on appropriate and timely instruction; effective operations; safe and inclusive environments; and leadership development.

Board Chair Rev. Howard Johnson said the board believes that Cordon has continued to perform with high marks. The contract extension, which goes into effect July 1, was agreed to on a unanimous vote of the board.

Johnson said, “Superintendent Cordon’s proactive approach to problem solving and his ability to listen to the Board and his co-workers has given the Board the confidence to extend his contract for another year”. Johnson said, “We the Board, developed a Strategic Plan for all the employees of the Roseburg School District to follow. I am happy to share with all, a job well done”.

A district release said that under Cordon’s leadership, the district has taken steps to increase opportunities for students. Updated reading and math curriculum are intended to inspire a love of learning and better prepare students for successful futures. The district also continues to strengthen Career Technical Education programs that place students on pathways to high-demand, high-wage careers. Increased access to athletics and extracurricular programs provides students with additional opportunities to build strong relationships and learn key life skills, according to the release.

The district has also embarked on several strategies to improve school facilities throughout the district. In particular, the district has improved building security through fencing, visitor management systems, and the hiring of security officers, among other work.

Cordon said he is grateful to serve students, staff, families and the community.

Cordon said, “I look forward to continuing efforts to improve academic achievement and prepare our students to become happy and proud high school graduates who will go on to contribute positively to their communities’.
