ROSEBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCES NEW RHS PRINCIPAL FOR 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR

The Roseburg School District has announced that David Vickery will take over as principal at Roseburg High School for the 2023-24 school year.

Superintendent Jared Cordon said Vickery, a graduate of RHS, is the current principal at Hillsboro High School. Cordon said Vickery will bring 15 years of experience in education to the district, including 10 years in administration.

Cordon said, ‘Our staff, administrators and School Board are thrilled to welcome David back to the Roseburg community and to Roseburg School District’. Cordon said, “David’s experience in education, combined with his passion for supporting students, will make him a great addition to our team”.

Vickery will step into the position following the recent appointment of current principal Dr. Jill Weber to the position of district Director of Teaching & Learning. His contract, approved unanimously by the board Thursday night, will take effect July 1st,

Vickery began his teaching career at Cascade Jr. High School, where he taught Special Education and was Assistive Technology Coordinator in Turner, Oregon. He went on to teach Special Education and was the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Coordinator at South Meadows Middle School, in Hillsboro. He then became Dean of Students at Hillsboro High School before being promoted to Assistant Principal at Hillsboro and Glencoe high schools. He has served as Principal of Hillsboro High School for the past 5 years.

Vickey obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix, his Master of Arts in Teaching at Pacific University in Forest Grove, and completed the Administration Licensure Program at Concordia University in Portland.

Prior to his career in education, Vickery served honorably in the United States Navy, worked as a heavy equipment operator for Roseburg Forest Products and was a survey and engineering technician and project manager for Tetsuka Association and Lonestar Surveying.

Vickey was offered the position with the district following meetings with students, RHS staff and district leaders.
