DOUGLAS ELECTRIC CREWS CONTINUE POWER RESTORATION EFFORTS

December 28, 2022 4:20 a.m.

Crews with Douglas Electric Cooperative continue power restoration efforts following the storm that hit the region Monday and Tuesday.

Assistant General Manager Phil Bigler said crews have been working through the night to repair transmission issues in the Umpqua and Scottsburg areas. Bigler said as of Tuesday evening, 1615 meters were without power. Bigler said some crews are working in areas without good cellular or radio coverage and are not easy to contact. More accurate outage numbers are expected later Wednesday morning.

The number of downed trees continued to grow throughout the day on Tuesday. Bigler said that significantly slowed their progress.

Pacific Power reported just a handful of remaining outages in Douglas County as of early Wednesday. Those were near the Myrtle Creek area. Statewide, the utility said that approximately 20,500 customers were still without power. That was down from nearly 50,000 at the height of the wind event.
