NEARLY 2,000 METERS WITHOUT POWER IN DOUGLAS ELECTRIC SERVICE AREA

December 27, 2022 1:30 p.m.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, there were nearly 2,000 meters without power in the Douglas Electric Cooperative Service area.

Assistant General Manager Phil Bigler said additional crews are on the way, but with continued wind, it is a struggle to make forward progress. Biglar said trees continue to fall, and when they take out poles and lines that end up in the roadway or create otherwise unsafe conditions, the utility is forced to some crew members away from repairs to make the affected area safe.

Bigler said staff has been able to perform some switching and restore power to some portions of the Umpqua area, but Tyee and the surrounding areas are still without power. Repairs are in progress to resume transmission to the Scottsburg substation. Once that is restored, crews will be able to begin restoring the downstream outages.

Bigler said Loon Lane and Ash Valley will likely be out until sometime on Wednesday. The same holds true for the Tenmile Lake area and for those along Scholfield Road.
