HIGH WIND WARNING THROUGH FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS THROUGH 7:00 P.M. TUESDAY

December 27, 2022 4:00 a.m.

A High Wind Warning is in place for mountain areas in southern Oregon through 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said southwest winds of 25 to 45 miles per hour with gusts up to 70 miles per hour are likely.

The Warning applies to the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Diamond Lake.

Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Snow levels will lower Tuesday morning. After this time, heavy wet snow falling at one inch per hour is very likely to cause white out conditions. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds will also increase the chance of falling trees.

Forecasters said people should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of the home during windstorms and avoid windows.
