HIGH WIND WARNING FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT

December 26, 2022 6:30 a.m.

A High Wind Warning is in effect from Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. through Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m. for the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Diamond Lake.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said southwest winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour with gusts up to 80 miles per hour are expected. Damaging winds will blow down trees and powerlines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially with high-profile vehicles.

Forecasters said snow levels will lower around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. After this time, heavy wet snow falling at possibly as much as one inch per hour is very likely to cause white out conditions. Snow amounts may come close to advisory amounts. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds will also increase the chance of falling trees.

Forecasters said people should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of the home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Drivers should use caution.
