On Wednesday, Governor Kate Brown issued a statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed President Biden’s appointment of Oregon Department of Agriculture Director Alexis Taylor as the Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Brown thanked Director Taylor for her committed service to Oregon and wished her the very best in her new role.

Brown said, “I cannot think of a better nominee for this role. Director Taylor’s passion for agriculture – rooted in her Midwest, family-owned farm upbringing – combined with her years of experience in agricultural issues at the local, statewide, and national levels, will serve out country well”. Brown said Taylor will bring an approach focused on advancing U.S. agriculture and growing the economy, while at the same time working to ensure equity, safety and collaboration.

Brown appointed Taylor as the director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture in November 2016. Prior to this role, Taylor served as the deputy under-secretary for the Farm and Foreign Agriculture Services at the USDA, where she was responsible for advancing international trade policy and leading efforts with states to support and open new, international market opportunities for U.S. food and agriculture producers. Taylor also spent time as a legislative advisor to members of the U.S. House Agriculture and Senate Finance committees.
