A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for mountain areas of southern Oregon from 10:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. Tuesday

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected with winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour. Snow will transition to rain and with well below freezing temperatures, this could result in ice developing, causing difficult travel conditions Tuesday evening.

The Advisory area includes the Siskiyou Mountains and Southern Oregon Cascades and applies to highways 140, 138, 62 and the Crater Lake area.

Forecasters said travel could be difficult. Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and low visibilities.
