The recent winter book sale by the Friends of the Roseburg Public Library set a sales record and was deemed a success.

A City of Roseburg release said the three-day event raised just over $ 2,800, with most books priced at $1 for the first two days. Everything was 50 cents or free on the sale’s final day. The Friends also sold books published within the last three years for $5 each, and locally made and donated colorful book bags for $5 as well.

Proceeds from all book sales benefit the library’s programs and projects. Sales proceeds were used to order a new public copier/print last week. While the sale lasted for 21 hours, volunteers donated 160 hours in the in the week leading up to the event, as well as 130 hours during the book sale week. That’s according to Friends of the Roseburg Public Library Vice President Marcy Tassano and Library Director Kris Wiley.

All books remaining after the sale were moved into the Friends Book Store to be sold for the regular store price of 50 cents. That upgraded the quality of the books in the store and will help the Friends manage the tremendous amount of donations being received.

The Friends accept book donations at the library’s front desk during operating hours. The next book sale is set for early March.
