FAMILY WELLNESS WONDERLAND IS SATURDAY

December 16, 2022 3:50 a.m.

Creating Community Resilience will hold the Family Wellness Wonderland this Saturday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

CCR is made up of 11 local organizations who are committed to improving community health. The event is being held through a partnership with Aviva Health.

They hope to show families that learning more about health and wellness – and living healthier lives – can be fun. Coalition Manager Rachel Gustafson said, “Our health is impacted by many things and our goal is to help people learn about and connect to the many great resources in our community that can support our well-being”. Gustafson said vaccines are part of what helps a community be healthy, but so is access to healthy food, high quality early childhood education, parenting support, mental health services, and physical activity. Gustafson said, “We are excited to have so many community groups join in our event to celebrate health”.

Aviva Health will help to sign people up for the Oregon Health Plan and will be offering a comprehensive vaccine clinic. That will include all childhood vaccines, and COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters. Attendees interested in vaccine services do not need to be Aviva patients, but do need to bring identification and an insurance card.

Family Wellness Wonderland will feature booths from CCR member organizations as well as other community partners offering information about topics like nutrition, home visiting programs, STEAM learning, mental health providers and disaster preparedness. There will be plenty of games and activities for kids including face painting, and pictures with Santa Claus. Food trucks will provide free food for the first 400 meals.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
