COMMISSIONERS ISSUE PROCLAMATION FOR NATIONAL GUARD DAY

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has issued a proclamation calling upon all citizens of the county to observe National Guard Day on Tuesday.

A County release said it will be the Guard’s 386th birthday.

Commissioner Chris Boice said the National Guard is the oldest military organization in America, originally founded in 1636 as a citizen force in Colonial America. Boice said its members respond to state and national emergencies, military conflicts, natural disasters and also conduct search and rescue operations. Boice said the commissioners are especially proud to honor members of Roseburg’s Charlie Company unit, who represent Oregon National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry Regiment

At last Wednesday’s weekly business meeting, Kress presented proclamation certificates to a number of local members of the Oregon Army National Guard.
