ROSEBURG WARMING CENTER EXPECTED TO OPEN AGAIN THIS WEEK

December 11, 2022 6:20 a.m.

The Roseburg Warming Center is expected to open again this week.

A City of Roseburg release said it will be at the Roseburg Senior Center at 1614 Southeast Stephens Street. It is expected to be open each night through Friday due to cold overnight low temperatures which are forecast.

Center operator Kimetha Stallings said the forecast will continue to be monitored. Stallings said, “I prefer the extended openings, many nights in a row. The guests have a rare opportunity to eat two hot meals daily and enjoy a warm cot nightly. The experience is restorative”.

60 cots are available for guests and volunteers. Check in begins at 6:00 p.m. but unhoused individuals can arrive at the shelter at any time during the night. Guests can stay until 8:00 a.m. each morning.

The senior center will provide a free shuttle bus that will make one circuit around town to pick up guests between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. People will be driven back the next morning.

Local residents who are interested in volunteering can text Stallings at 541-236-2089 or comment on the Facebook post about the opening at: https://www.facebook.com/Warming.Center.Onward

No donations are needed for the center, due to lack of storage space. The City of Roseburg helps to pay for the operating costs.
