WINTER STORM WARNINGS START FRIDAY AFTERNOON

December 9, 2022 4:10 a.m.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 4:00 p.m. Friday through 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the mountain areas of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 17 inches are forecast with winds gusting as high as 55 miles per hour over exposed terrain.

The Warning area is for the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. This includes Diamond Lake, the road to Crater Lake, and the Mt. Ashland Ski Road.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Travel is strongly discouraged. Those who must be on the roads should keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications, and a fully charged phone with them.

A Winter Storm Warning means that severe winter weather is imminent and poses a threat to life and property.
