FAMILY WELLNESS WONDERLAND RETURNS TO FAIRGROUNDS

December 8, 2022 3:50 a.m.

Eleven local organizations committed to improving community health are teaming up for the Family Wellness Wonderland on Saturday, December 17th at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

The Creating Community Resilience Coalition, a collaboration between the groups, including Aviva Health, are hosting the free event, which is meant to show families that learning more about health and wellness – and living healthier lives – can be fun.

CCR Coalition Manager Rachel Gustafson said, “Out health is impacted by many things and our goal is to help people learn about and connect to many great resources in our community that can support our well-being”. Gustafson said vaccines are part of what helps a community be healthy, but so is access to healthy food, high quality early childhood education, parenting support, mental health services and physical activity. Gustafson said she is excited to have so many community groups join in their event to celebrate health.

A release said Aviva Health will be helping people sign up for the Oregon Health Plan and will be offering a comprehensive vaccine clinic including all childhood vaccines, flu vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines for those age 5 and up, including COVID boosters. Those interested in vaccine services do not need to be Aviva patients, but an ID card and insurance card are required.

Family Wellness Wonderland will feature booths from CCR member organizations as well as other community partners. They will offer information about topics like nutrition, home visiting programs, STEAM learning, mental health providers and disaster preparedness. Plenty of games and activities will be offered as well.

The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
