A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect starting early Thursday for much of southern Oregon above 2,500 feet.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the advisory area includes central Douglas County, the eastern Douglas County foothills, Josephine and Jackson counties, and eastern Curry County from 4:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m.

An Urgent Weather Message said snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected with higher amounts possible at elevations above 4,000 feet, especially in the Coast Range.

Forecasters said travel could be difficult due to reduced visibility from blowing snow and slick roads. Hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The heaviest snow is expected to be from late Thursday morning through early afternoon. There is a slight chance that snowfall rates will reach one inch per hour.
