Tina Kotek’s campaign has claimed victory in the race for Oregon governor.

An update from the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, showed the Portland Democrat with 46.7 percent of the vote, compared to 43.8 percent for Republican Christine Drazan. That’s a margin of nearly 45,000 votes. Former State Senator Betsy Johnson has 8.7 percent of the vote.

Kotek’s campaign released a statement just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Kotek said, “Oregon faces major challenges, and I look forward to getting to work to solve them. I promise to be a Governor for all of Oregon. I will start by working tirelessly to deliver results on issues of shared concern across our state: housing and homelessness, access to mental health and addition treatment, helping our students succeed, and supporting small businesses”.

Kotek said, “I ask Oregonians – no matter who you voted for in this election – to believe in our state, to stay engaged, and to help figure out solutions together”. Kotek said she is “…humbled and honored by this opportunity to serve Oregon”. She said she would strive to be a force for positive change in the state.

Shortly after 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, Christine Drazan’s campaign said it was continuing to monitor results, with the expectation that the race would tighten. Betsy Johnson’s campaign conceded the race Tuesday evening.
