Tyler Christopherson has been promoted, and named the Fire Chief for the City of Roseburg Fire Department, effective November 1st.

Christopherson replaces Chief Monte Bryan, who retired at the end of June.

An RFD release said Christopherson was born and raised in Eugene. Shortly after graduating from Churchill Hill School, he began his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter for the Santa Clara Fire District, in the Eugene area. In 1999, he began study at Chemeketa Community College and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science in December of 2000.

Christopherson joined RFD as a Firefighter in January of 2006. He has climbed the ladder since starting with the department and has served in all online rank positions including Firefighter, Driver/Engineer, Lieutenant, Battalion Chief and most recently as Assistant Chief of Operations. Christopherson obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Administration from Columbia Southern University in the summer of 2019.

The release said officials would like to thank Chief Gary Garrisi, who stepped out of retirement to assist in the short term while the City of Roseburg conducted a search for a new Fire Chief.
