The Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley has announced that it has recently appointed Summer Baranko as its executive director.

A release said Baranko succeeds Bryan Lake who resigned from the position after six years. The board is thankful to Lake for his work and dedication to the organization.

Board President Stacey Crowe said the club conducted a search for its new leader and found the successful candidate right here in the community. Crowe said Baranko already knows many of the club’s partners and the community systems that serve local youth. Crowe said, “We are excited and confident that Summer’s unique skill set will lead us into the future for serving youth in Douglas County, including a goal to serve more youth in their own communities”.

Prior to her new role, Branko’s professional experience included 30 years practicing law; the majority of which was dedicated to protecting children from abuse and neglect. The release said Baranko has extensive experience leading professional offices, and budget management experience. She has been a volunteer and has served on non-profit boards of directors that serve children.

Baranko said it is an honor to have been selected as the new executive director for the organization. She said, “I believe that every child has the potential to succeed, and that rural communities like Douglas County have the ability to create conditions where children can thrive through community partnerships and the investment of resources for the benefit of children”. Baranko said the Boys & Girls Club plays a vital role in creating the opportunities and resiliencies that lead to success.
