CLERK RECEIVES REPORTS OF CANVASSERS LOOKING FOR ELECTION FRAUD

October 12, 2022 10:50 a.m.

Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis has recently received reports of canvassers looking for election fraud.

Loomis said his office has gotten two complaints of perceived intimidation. Loomis said the citizens indicated they were visited by someone asking about the November 2020 election. Loomis said the callers said they were asked to sign and notarize sworn affidavits about their voter registration status, whether they voted, who lives at their address, who has not lived there, and when did they make changes to their registration. Loomis said one caller stated they were also asked “who they voted for”.

Loomis said his office has also gotten two other voter calls from people who said they were concerned or confused, thinking the canvassers were county election employees. Loomis said those going door to door were definitely not elections staff and do not represent county government. Loomis said voters should be aware they are under no obligation to answer those type of questions if someone comes to their door.

Loomis said voters can be assured that county elections staff will not be seeking information on who people voted for and will not change a resident’s voter registration, using only a private canvasser’s data collection.
