The Roseburg City Council will deal with a couple of vacancies at its meeting Monday night.

Councilors are expected to formally accept the resignation of Sheri Moothart from her Ward One seat on the council and declare the position vacant. Staff will then be directed to solicit applications from people interested in filling the rest of Moothart’s term, which goes until the end of 2024. Moothart cited the demands of her new job as the reason for exiting from the council.

The council is also expected to declare a position on the Public Works Commission vacant. Commission member Noel Groshong recently passed away. Staff will be asked to solicit applications from residents wanting to serve in this position, as well.

Councilors will have a public hearing on annexing a lot on Northeast Housely Avenue into the city.

Mayor Larry Rich will issue a proclamation marking this week as Fire Prevention Week. This is the 100th anniversary the week has been designated around the nation.
