MOOTHART RESIGNS FROM CITY COUNCIL

October 7, 2022 3:40 a.m.

Sheri Moothart has resigned from the Roseburg City Council.

Moothart ran for the position in the fall of 2020 and began her service in January 2021. She has represented Ward One, which is northeast Roseburg. Her ward starts north of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard and includes the Rocky Ridge neighborhood, areas around Joseph Lane Middle School and going to the north boundary of Roseburg near Interstate Five.

A letter to Mayor Larry Rich and City Manager Nikki Messenger from Moothart dated October 2nd said “My new job is taking up a substantial amount of time and I feel that I am not representing Ward 1 or the city to the best of my ability”. Moothart said she enjoyed her time on the council and as the chairperson of the Historic Review Commission.

The city council will have to officially “accept” her resignation at its meeting next Monday and declare a vacancy. Then staff will be directed to solicit applications from people interested in completing the term – which goes until December of 2024. Notes from staff said the recruitment will stay open until November 4th, making it likely that candidate interviews will be held at the November 14th council meeting.
