October 12, 2022 3:40 a.m.

Douglas Education Service District’s Safe Routes to School program is planning a Walk and Roll to School Day in celebration of National Walk and Roll to School Day.

The event will be next Wednesday, October 12th, and takes place to encourage students to walk, bike and roll to school.

A release said it is geared for students in grades K-12 and their families, which includes virtual and homeschool students. If students don’t live near a school, they are invited to participate for twenty minutes a day in a safe alternative location such as a neighborhood or park.

All participants should follow bicycle and pedestrian safety guidelines and are encouraged to participate with a friend or family member. Elementary-aged children and younger should have a responsible caregiver accompany them along their safe route to school.
