ROSEBURG 150 EVENTS BEGIN SUNDAY

The City of Roseburg officially turns 150 years old on Monday, and a month full of activities begin on Sunday.

Things happening include:

*Roseburg 150 Run/Walk: The 5K event will take place in Stewart Park. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, presented by Thrive Umpqua with partners including Roseburg Parks and Recreation, the YMCA of Douglas County and Adapt. Sunday in-person registration goes from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.

*Roseburg 150 Party in the Park: The big event is also in Stewart Park on Sunday and runs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It will feature a program including Mayor Larry Rich and other dignitaries. Music will be provided by the Roseburg High School Choir, Sunny Sky Boys, Jason Heald, and the Neil Gregory Johnson Band. Food trucks will be on site along with a giant birthday cake and Umpqua Dairy Ice Cream. A giant birthday card is available for everyone to sign. There will be an Aaron Rose tent, family-oriented games and races, youth activities, and a “Walk Through Time” with historic photographs and figures staked out along the park’s multi-use path. The party is free of charge.

*Time Capsule Ceremony at City Hall Monday at 9:00 a.m. Brief speeches will be made by Mayor Larry Rich, City Manager Nikki Messenger and possibly others. A time capsule will be buried by Roseburg Public Works with a marker explaining that it should be opened in 50 years on October 3rd, 2072 to celebrate Roseburg’s Bicentennial. The capsule will include artifacts and memorabilia from diverse groups, organizations and businesses.

Other Roseburg 150 activities will include:

*Blocktoberfest Saturday October 8th in downtown from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Presented by NeighborWorks Umpqua, it will include local breweries and food trucks, live music and entertainment, and more.

*Roseburg 150 birthday dinner with the Elks Lodge on Saturday October 15th.
