On Tuesday, Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman and Tom Kress presented Bennie Sigmon with the Douglas County Senior Services Volunteer of the Month award, at Bistro Sixty Sutherlin inside the Sutherlin Senior Center.

Commissioner Kress said, “The number of man-hours it takes to operate programs through our Senior Services Department is astonishing and it wouldn’t be successful without volunteers like Bennie. They serve each week doing the often-unseen but pivotal work of caring for our seniors through our dining sites and Meals on Wheels programs”. Kress said it was an honor to recognize Sigmon for serving three times a week for almost two decades. Kress said, “That kind of commitment is simply outstanding”.

Victoria Kietzman nominated Sigmon for the award. Kietzman said, “The number of things Bennie does is almost too long to list because there’s not much he doesn’t do to help Bistro Sixty Sutherlin run smoothly”.

A County government release said Bistro Sixty Senior Dining Sites prepare meals on Tuesdays. Thursdays and Fridays at rural dining site locations in Glide, Glendale, Reedsport, Riddle, Sutherlin, Winston and Yoncalla. Those who know people who are unable to drive, need assistance with daily living activities, would benefit from hot meal delivery or other assistance, are encouraged to call the Aging & Disabilities Resource Connection in the Senior Services Department at 440-3677.
