COUGAR CREEK FIRE BURNING WEST OF SUTHERLIN

September 29, 2022 4:00 a.m. 

Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Coos Forest Protective Association, along with local resource suppression firefighters, responded to a wildland fire, 16 miles west of Sutherlin on Wednesday afternoon at about 1:30 p.m.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said the Cougar Creek Fire was burning primarily in logging slash, and was detected on privately owned property.

Pope said fire suppression crews, engines and air attack, including three helicopters engaged in initial attack. Additional resources were requested and continued to work Wednesday night. Pope said the fire was estimated to be between 40 and 50 acres, as of Wednesday night. It was 15 percent trailed at that time, and was not a threat to homes or structures. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
