September 29, 2022 1:30 p.m.

The Cougar Creek Fire is 80 percent trailed and plumbed as of early Thursday afternoon.

An update from the Douglas Forest Protective Association said day one’s aggressive initial attack with crews working through the night, resulted in success. Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said the fire has been knocked down and is estimated to be between 40 and 50 acres.

That fire was initially reported at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It was detected on privately owned property which is steep and rocky.

Pope said DFPA crews, contracted hand-crews and industry resources have completed hand-trailing the remaining perimeter of the fire. Mop up will continue for several more days until 100 percent containment is achieved.
