EMPTY BOWLS PROJECT DINNER FUNDRAISER IS OCTOBER 10TH

September 28, 2022 3:30 a.m.

Feeding Umpqua, a program of the United Community Action Network, will have their Empty Bowls Project Dinner fundraiser on Monday October 10th.

It will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Joyce Morgan Food Distribution Center on UCAN’s campus, just north of Roseburg.

Director Sarah McGregor said Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. Potters and other craftspeople, educators and community members work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Those attending can select a bowl and enjoy a meal of soup and bread. At the end of the evening, then can choose to keep their bowl or donate it back for future years. Locally funds raised from the event will support Feeding Umpqua, which distributes nearly two million pounds of food annually to over 40 food sites throughout Douglas County. McGregor said every month, over 16,000 persons receive food through those locations.

Over ten restaurants and businesses are participating and donating to this year’s dinner. The evening will include art by Max Smoot and music by Blue Meridian.

Tickets are $25 per person or $30 at the door. They can be purchased online at www.ucanfillempty bowls.com or by calling 492-3508.

McGregor said Empty Bowls began in 2017 and has made a big difference in helping people in need. Last year it was a Pick-Up Party as a modified event. McGregor said they are excited to host the event back in person.
