Sutherlin Police jailed a man for multiple charges, following a traffic stop on Sunday.
An SPD report said just before 1:50 p.m. an officer stopped 57-year old Edward Garcia near the intersection of Hawthorne Street and West Central Avenue. The man was allegedly driving a sedan with expired registration, no insurance, and altered registration tags. His license was suspended at the misdemeanor level.
Garcia was arrested, handcuffed and advised of his rights. During a consent search of a bag in the vehicle, an automatic pistol was allegedly found. Garcia is a convicted felon. He said he got the gun from a family member who told him they had found it.
Garcia was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a first-degree count of theft of lost or mislaid property and for driving while suspended-misdemeanor. He was held without bail.
