COMMUNITY MEMBERS SOUGHT FOR RHS CAREER PRESENTATION

Roseburg High School will host a virtual career presentation for students next month, and community members interested in sharing their career experiences are invited to participate.

Assistant Principal Brad Bogardus said the online event for ninth-graders will be held October 12th from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Bogardus said it is intended to help students discover potential job opportunities and prepare for life after high school. RHS is hoping to invite between 40 and 50 community members to present to the students via Zoom. Each presentation will take about 20 minutes.

Bogardus said last year’s event was a hit with students. He said many of the students followed up with the second part of the day’s assignment researching the career pathway that was presented.

A list of talking points will be provided to presenters and will include topics like career history, job responsibilities, training and education requirements, average salaries and long-term outlooks. The school plans to present a wide range of careers to students.

Bogardus said the career presentation is one of the many ways the high school seeks to spark students’ interest in planning for future success. In particular, motivating and inspiring ninth-graders to remain on track for graduation can lead to increased graduation rates.
