Aviva Health’s Mobile Medical Services team plans to deploy one its mobile medical units to Diamond Lake on Friday October 14th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. bringing health care services to one of the county’s most medically underserved areas.

The MMU will be at the Diamond Lake Gas Station on Resort Drive where it will co-locate with Feeding Umpqua’s Outpost Mobile Food Center. Residents can call 672-9596 to schedule an appointment.

A release said the vehicles were assigned to the organization by the Douglas County Commissioners at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. They were used to deliver vaccination, testing and support services to residents and other health care organizations in the area after COVID-19 took hold.

During the delta surge, the larger of the two MMU’s served as a pre-emergency department triage for CHI Mercy Medical Center at a time when the hospital was working to protect capacity in its intensive care unit and emergency room.

The release said while COVID-19 persists locally, the time has come for Aviva to use its MMU’s in a more traditional sense. According to Darby Baker, director of Clinical Operations at Aviva Health, monthly outreach to people living around Diamond Lake is an important use of resources.

The MMU offers general and preventative health care for children and adults, chronic disease management, immunizations, referrals to specialists and health education.

After the first trip to Diamond Lake, the MMU will deploy monthly to the same location at Diamond Lake.
