NATIONAL FOREST MOVES TO PUR LEVEL 3

September 9, 2022 3:40 a.m.

The Umpqua National Forest has moved to Public Use Restrictions Level III.

Chris Bentley of the UNF said this is due to high winds, low humidity, and hot, possibly record-breaking temperatures over the next several days. Bentley said a major eastern wind event is forecast for this weekend that is likely to cause existing wildfires to grow rapidly.

With this designation, these activities are now prohibited:

*Building a campfire except for using a commercial stove fired by liquid fuel or propane

*Smoking outside of an enclosed car or building

*Operating a combustion engine except on a motor vehicle on major roads or parking areas or on roads designated for open motorized travel

The fire restriction also applies in Wilderness areas.
