A Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11:00 a.m. Friday through 11:00 p.m. Saturday for central Douglas County.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said high temperatures of 98 degrees to 104 degrees are expected, with lows in the mid-60s. Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur.

Forecasters said while smoke from area wildfires may prevent temperatures from reaching their highest potential, the smoke will also prevent people from finding relief at night through open windows.

An Urgent Weather Message said residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.

People who work or spend time outside should take extra precautions. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
