RED FLAG WARNING FOR MUCH OF SOUTHERN OREGON

September 6, 2022 4:20 a.m.

Hot, dry and windy conditions are expected Tuesday afternoon and evening at higher elevations in much of southern Oregon leading to a Red Flag Warning.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said dry thunderstorms could develop over a line stretching from Siskiyou County, California, including the Mill Fire, northeastward into Oregon. While little if any rain is expected, these storms could produce gusty, quickly shifting winds up to 45 miles per hour.

The Red Flag Warning is in place Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening with the potential for rapidly spreading wildfires which could become life threatening.

An Air Quality Alert is in place until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday for Josephine, Jackson, Curry, Klamath and Lake counties. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels.
