September 1, 2022 3:30 a.m.

City of Roseburg buildings will not be open this coming Monday, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

A release said Roseburg City Hall, the Roseburg Public Safety Center, Roseburg Public Library and other city owned buildings will be closed to the public. Police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.

City parks, the Fir Grove Splash Pad, and the Stewart Park Golf Course will be open. The splash pad is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to dusk until it closes for the season on Tuesday.

The release said lobbies at City Hall and the Public Safety Center are normally open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. although City Hall normally closes for the lunch hour. Library hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

In 1894 Congress passed a bill to make Labor Day a federal holiday. It was signed into law by President Grover Cleveland.
