August 26, 2022 10:00 a.m.

The Windigo Fire is nearly 100 percent contained, as containment has increased on other fires in the area as well.

An update from the Northwest Incident Management Team 10 said the Windigo Fire is 99 percent contained. Both the Potter and Big Swamp fires are 94 percent contained, while containment on the Camel Hump Fire has increased to 80 percent. None of the fires have increased in size.

The Umpqua and Deschutes national forests have reduced the fire closures around the Windigo Fire, opening up a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail and other roads and trails. The Willamette National Forest reduced the fire closures around the Big Swamp Fire, opening many roads south of Diamond Drive, also known as Forest Road 21.

To provide for public and firefighter safety, the Umpqua National Forest issued a closure for the Camel Hump Fire. It closes the southeast portion of the Boulder Creek Wilderness and some roads outside the Wilderness.

Weather on the fires is expected to turn cooler as a weather system arrives from Alaska. Some gusty winds are expected with the passing cold front.,

There is minimal fire activity on the Big Swamp Fire. On the Potter Fire, fire has been creeping toward indirect containment lines. Crews have mopped up most hot spots along control lines within the Boulder Creek Wilderness on the Camel Hump Fire. Repair and cleanup work continue on the Windigo Fire.

633 people are staffing the fires. That includes 14 hand crews, 11 engines, 4 dozers, 19 water tenders and 5 helicopters.
