August 16, 2022 10:30 a.m.

Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 10 assumed command of the Windigo, Big Swamp and Potter fires at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The latest update said the Windigo Fire is now 78 percent contained and remains at 1,007 acres. Crews have completed mop up operations 100 feet within the fire’s edge. Crews are beginning repair work across the fire area in order to protect public safety and prevent further degradation of the landscape, and to mitigate post-fire damages to the cultural resource.

The Potter Fire is at 473 acres. Burnout operations have been successful and continue across all divisions of the fire. On the east and south sides of the fire, crews will continue with direct and indirect line preparation and attempt tactical burnout operations, as conditions permit.

The Big Swamp Fire remains at 121 acres. Hotshot crews continue hand line construction around the perimeter of the fire. Mop up operations have started on the south and western portions of the fire. Hose lays are in place around parts of the fire without roads as containment features.

871 total personnel are working on the fires. That includes 27 hand crews, 22 engines, 9 dozers, 11 water tenders, and 8 Type 1 helicopters.

For fire fighter and public safety, residents are asked to follow closure orders in the fire areas: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/willamette/alerts-notices/?cid=fseprd552029&fbclid=IwAR0ZYB_nXgUizysneDLDX78_8EB2yYEhIEPpPCFfmRxnGSqQH6AnJPHiYOs
