WARMING AND DRYING TREND, FIREFIGHTERS ON ALERT

A warming and drying trend is keeping fire detection and initial attack firefighters on alert across the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest.

Public Information Officer Margueritte Hickman said aerial patrol, infrared detection and mapping, and ground patrols have been diligent in searching for any holdover fires from recent lightning.

Hickman said early Thursday morning resources were dispatched to a newly detected fire on the Klamath National Forest to support initial attack efforts. A Type 3 Incident Commander and a Task Force of engines responded alongside partner agencies. At last check, that fire is estimated to be 27 acres lined and plumbed. Firefighters from the RRSNF will remain on scene to continue mop up efforts until they are relieved by an incident management team that is managing adjacent fires.

Resources have been making good progress toward containment on the Alex Fire working under California Incident Management Team 10 and are building line directly along the fire’s edge. The fire has not grown in the past day and is showing moderated activity within its 151 acres footprint.
