LIGHTNING MOVES THROUGH AREA, STARTS MULTIPLE WILDFIRES

Lightning moved through the Umpqua National Forest this past weekend, sparking multiple wildfires.

Pam Sichting from the UNF said initial attack firefighters were quick to respond and suppress ten of the located new starts on the Diamond Lake Ranger District. Sichting said three fires required extended attack and one continues to grow.

*The Windigo Fire has grown to approximately 1,200 acres and is burning actively near Windigo Pass and Forest Service Road 60

*Forebay 1 Fire is approximately four acres and is north of Lemolo forebay.

*Fire 237 is about a half-acre in size and is also north of Lemolo forebay. The fire is now contained.

A release said each of these fires are managed as full-suppression incidents. Crews are focused on establishing and holding contingency lines. Multiple resources are assigned to each fire. A Type 2 Incident Management Team will be assuming management of the Windigo Fire on the Umpqua National Forest and the Potter Mt. Fire on the Willamette National Forest.
