HEAT ADVISORY/EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN REGION

July 30, 2022 11:40 a.m.

A Heat Advisory and an Excessive Heat Warning remains in place for southern Oregon through most of the weekend.

An Urgent Weather Message from the National Weather Service said for central Douglas County, a Heat Advisory has been extended through 9:00 p.m. Sunday. Overnight lows continue to be warmer than normal, mainly in the 60s. Although temperatures will be somewhat cooler on Sunday, the long duration of the heat added with potential smoke impacts from the McKinney Fire in northern California may prevent relief from the heat.

An Excessive Heat Warning continues for the eastern Douglas County foothills until 11:00 p.m. Sunday. Dangerously hot high temperatures of 95 degrees to 110 degrees for lower elevations, and 85 degrees to 95 degrees for mid elevations up to 6,000 feet are expected.

For the Rogue Valley and inland areas along the southern Oregon coast, dangerously hot high temperatures between 100 degrees and 115 degrees in the valleys, 90 degrees to 100 degrees at mid elevations and 80 degrees to 90 degrees in the mountains are forecast.

The Warning said residents should continue to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

People working or spending time outside should take extra precautions. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
