Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man following an alleged elude incident on Sunday night.

A DCSO report said at 11:50 p.m. a deputy attempted to contact the 50-year old man in the 3000 block of Highway 42 near Winston. The gate was closed and locked. As the deputy headed back toward Roseburg, he observed the suspect heading westbound in a pickup in the 3800 block of the highway.

The deputy turned and activated the overhead lights on his patrol vehicle, and the suspect’s vehicle accelerated noticeably and continued westbound at a high rate of speed. The deputy caught up with the suspect just before Porter Creek, where the suspect continued at a high rate of speed. The report said the suspect braked abruptly, turned into his driveway, and smashed the gate before driving up to the residence.

The deputy challenged the suspect and took him into custody without further incident. He was charged with attempt to elude in a vehicle and for two restraining order violations, and was held without bail.
